Narrow Band Image (NBI) technology has been developed for better diagnosis and early treatment of suspicious areas of the oropharynx and larynx.
It uses only the blue (415nm) and green (540nm) wavelengths of white light. These two wavelengths are absorbed differently by the blood vessels and the healthy mucosa around them, thus allowing better visualization of areas with increased vascularity. This is usually the first sign of a neoplastic process.
The combined use of NBI and a HD videolaryngoscope allows the trained ENT Surgeon to identify and treat urgently these early mucosal changes before they can progress to cancer.
